The Broxton Rocks Forest is located in the heart of Coffee County, Georgia. While much of this area is dedicated to responsibly growing trees for timber, special focus is placed on conservation and careful environmental stewardship.
Historically, longleaf pines, native grasses, and wetlands had dominated this landscape, but that ecosystem has dwindled over the years. With the recent harvest of loblolly pine for timber, planting efforts are planned to help reestablish longleaf pine canopy within this forest, with a focus on returning the land to its native state.
The overall ecosystem restoration will support the nearly 600 animal and plant species that depend on it — including the gopher tortoise, a keystone species that relies on longleaf pine for its habitat.
